When Abercorn Walk officially opened in August 2005, it was to much fanfare. Many of Savannah's residents applauded the developers for the attractive design, and other tenants soon arrived at the shopping center. By November, Talbots opened a combo store that sells general merchandise, including petites and plus sizes. Many other boutique-style stores opened in 2006. Those included Acorn, Monkee's, La Villa and Hand Picked. In the summer of 2006, Coldwater Creek joined the tenant lineup. There still remains one vacant space available, at 2,680 square feet.
Abercorn Walk sits across the street from another upscale shopping center, Twelve Oaks du Marché, which opened in 1984 and has a horseshoe shape. This center includes Publix, Cold Stone Creamery, Starbucks, Bonefish Grill, and Pier 1 Imports, among many others. Many locally owned boutiques such as Jezebel and Globe Shoe Company have suburban branches at Twelve Oaks. It is built of imitation "Savannah gray" brick and has a copper patina roof.
